K’gari 4 Day Trek 1-4 May 2026

4 day trek on K’gari with the Butchulla peoples

Join the Butchulla community, Elders and Rangers on this once in a life time experience walking parts of the Great Walk on K’gari fully supported by Butchulla guides.

Trekkers will meet on Thursday evening 30th April, 2026 at Kondari Resort for trek briefing and a meet and greet.  Here you will receive your Wongari (Dingo) Stick which trekkers will emboss with symbols and images to record their 4 day experience and become a keepsake for this experience.  Early Friday morning the group will secure their cars at Butchulla Headquaters near the airport at Hervey Bay.  We will then be ferried to K’gari on the 7 am barge and be welcomed onto country with a Smoking Ceremony before heading via 4WD bus to the East Coast to start our walk.  The 4 day trek will be guided by Butchulla Custodians and knowledge shared along the way about the cultural significance of the landscape, flora and fauna, creation stories and the 3 Butchulla Lores.  All trekking gear will be supplied.

This fully supported tour includes:

• Twin share accomodation at Kondari Resort – 30th of April for briefing – trekkers purchase own meals and drinks that evening.
• Butchulla guides and support crew
• All camping and trekking gear – walk into camp to a fully errected camp site with all the comforts – 2 trekkers per tent
• Camping Permits, transport (barge, 4 WD bus, support vehicles)
• All safety gear – satelitte phones, power banks, wongari rangers, first aid kits, UHF radios, all campsites Wongari safe.
• All meals provided – trekkers to bring own trail snacks
• Potable water at all campsites
• Hot evening meals and Butchulla Story tellers at the evenings campsites
• Celebration lunch at Kingfisher Resort on completion of 4 day trek
• Hot showers
• Support vehicle to carry your pack or provide transport if unable to walk parts of the track due to injury.
• Expert trekkers, cultural knowledge holders.

This once in a life-time experience is like no other.  You will be accompanied by Butchulla knowledge holders the whole trek, gaining valuable insight into the culture, history, landscape and Butchulla peoples. Trek on Butchulla country from Friday 1st May to Monday 4th of May, returning to RiverHeads/Hervey Bay by 3pm.
